Phyllis Shambaugh Meenan
Phyllis Shambaugh Meenan was a native of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Carlisle High School in 1950, received a bachelor of science degree in education from Shippensburg State College in 1954, and went on to receive her master’s degree in education from Pennsylvania State University. She taught fourth grade in the Carlisle Area School District for 38 years and loved working with children. Aside from teaching, she gave private piano lessons to children in Carlisle for over 40 years. Phyllis came from a modest background, and she worked while attending Shippensburg State College and Pennsylvania State University to pay for her tuition. She believed in working hard, saving your money, and investing wisely. She valued her education, and created this scholarship through her estate to invest in future elementary educators from Carlisle.
