Friends and Colleagues of Benjamin S. Nispel

Dr. Benjamin Nispel served the institution of higher learning now known as Shippensburg University for over a quarter century in the following deanships: Dean of Arts and Science (1962-1973), Dean of the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences (1973-1980), Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences (1980-1983), and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (1983-1989). 

Elizabeth Reeder (1922-2011) married Benjamin Nispel in October 1943. Earlier that same year, she graduated from Shippensburg State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1961, she earned a Master of Education degree from Shippensburg State College. While her husband was in the European Theatre during World War II, Elizabeth began her teaching career.  Between 1943 and 1957, she held a number of teaching positions, including New Cumberland School, Centerville School, Hallam School, and York schools. After Elizabeth and her family moved to Shippensburg in 1957, she continued to teach, first at Central School and then throughout the Shippensburg area school district. Her assignments ranged from grade school to a one-semester temporary appointment in the Department of Geography and Earth Science at Shippensburg State College. Elizabeth played an active role in a number of community organizations and served as a volunteer and supporter of the Shippensburg University Fashion Archives.
