Dr. Elnetta Jones
This scholarship was established in recognition of the numerous contributions that Dr. Elnetta G. Jones made to Shippensburg University. Dr. Jones was a dynamic leader who initiated many of the programs and services still in operation today that support students and make it possible for them to achieve academic success. Under the leadership of Dr. Jones, the Division of Undeclared Majors (1981), Learning Assistance Center (1983) and the Martin Luther King Program (1983) were established at Shippensburg University. Dr. Jones also provided leadership and direction for Shippensburg University's ACT 101 Higher Education Equal Opportunity Program to assist under-prepared students for college. Her service as director of the program spanned the years of 1976 to 1992, during which time the program was among the upper ten percent of all ACT 101 programs in Pennsylvania. As Dean of the Division of Undeclared Majors, Dr. Jones understood that many students need time to explore the educational opportunities available to them in college, and she worked tirelessly on their behalf. In her 27 years as an administrator at Shippensburg University, Dr. Jones never forgot that students are at the heart of the institution and central to its mission.
