Eleze P. McKenzie
Eleze (Poe) and Chester S. McKenzie are both graduates of Shippensburg University, Class of 1935. Both had very rewarding professional lives. Degree in English from Cornell University and did subsequent graduate work at Cornell, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Maryland. In 1965 she joined the faculty of the English Department of Shippensburg University, where she remained until retirement in 1976, ending a teaching career that spanned 42 years.
Chester McKenzie was a personnel administrator for the Department of the Army at Letterkenny Amy Depot for more than 30 years. During this time, he participated in a number of specialized training seminars throughout the United States; served as a cadre man on civilian personnel matters for the Office, Chief of Ordnance, Washington, D.C.; was Chief, Employee Relations Branch, Letterkenny; and Civilian Personnel Officer when he retired in 1973.
It is Chester and Eleze’s wish that the opportunities provided by this scholarship will further a recipient's passion for both language and great literature, as well as allow the student to take full advantage of the campus activities that are part of a well-rounded collegiate experience.
