George C. Hoopy
George Hoopy was born on a farm in 1906 on the west shore of Pennsylvania. His father graduated from the Cumberland Valley State Normal School (now Shippensburg University) in 1894 and instilled in him the value of education and hard work. George graduated from the Harrisburg Academy in 1926 and earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Duke University in 1931. He started Hoopy Insurance Agency, which thrived under his leadership. Mr. Hoopy established this scholarship in memory of his late wife of 58 years, Patricia Hoopy, and his father, Harry, to provide an opportunity for students from the Harrisburg Academy or Cedar Cliff High School to attend Shippensburg University.
