Gwen Baker
This scholarship was established in 2004 by Gwen Baker, a long-time supporter of women's athletics at Shippensburg University. She coached the Lady Raiders basketball team from 1961 to 1980 and was a member of the Shippensburg University physical education department from 1961 to 1981. She also served as the Women's Athletic Director from 1971 to 1981, retiring in 1981 after an illustrious career of athletic success at Shippensburg.
As head women's basketball coach, her overall record in 19 seasons was 151-64 with three undefeated seasons and two seasons that experienced only one loss.
Gwen was passionate and committed, not only to the women's basketball team, but also to the women's athletics program. During her tenure as Women's Athletic Director, she added six new women's sports to Shippensburg's Lady Raiders program.
Because of her coaching career, her love of the game of basketball, and her commitment to Shippensburg’s student-athletes, she was inspired to continue her support of the Lady Raiders Basketball program by establishing this fund.
