Dr. William B. Meloy

The Jack A. and Esther L. Meloy Memorial Scholarship was established by their son, Dr. William B. Meloy, Ph.D.,'69M. Dr. Meloy said his parents instilled in him the importance of a good education. This scholarship is to honor them for their gift of education, a life-long love of Learning, and the importance of reading.
Jack Meloy attended Juniata College during the Depression and later pursued his graduate studies at Penn State University. After starting his career as a teacher in Huntington School District, William Meloy earned his Master of Education degree from Shippensburg University in 1969 so he could qualify as a remedial reading specialist. After earning his Remedial Reading Specialist certificate, he instructed teachers in reading and children's literature at the Altoona campus of Penn State University. After four years in the Huntington School District, he became a test coordinator and reading specialist for Prince George's County, a position he held for thirty years before retiring in 2001. His whole life centered around children and the resources they needed to get a good primary education.
Esther was a registered nurse. She trained at the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia and took graduate classes at Penn State University, eventually working as a private duty nurse providing one-on-one care for longer-term patients. After working as a nurse in the operating room at J.C. Blair Memorial, Ester spent many fulfilling years as an office nurse for general surgeons.
