This scholarship was established on November 6, 1999, in honor of Ms. Jane G. Goss, who served Shippensburg University for 33 years as a professor, coach, and administrator.  Jane came to Shippensburg in 1967 as the head coach of the women's tennis and field hockey teams. She served as head tennis coach until 1971, compiling a record of 17 -12.  During the spring of 1970, her team had a record of 5 -1.  The Field Hockey team compiled a 117-46-22 record for a .692 winning percentage. They won the AIA W Division III National Championship in 1979 with a record of 16-2-3.  From 1976 to 1978, the team went 27 straight games without a defeat, winning 22 and tying 5. The team was undefeated in 1977 with an 11-0-2 record. The 1979 field hockey team won Shippensburg University's first national championship.
In 1983, Jane went on to become the Associate Director of Athletics, where she spent much of her time pursuing schedule expansion and scholarship opportunities for female student-athletes.  She also served as the Director of Equal Opportunity in sports, watching over a women's intercollegiate athletic program that has undergone great expansion.
