G.B. Stuart Charitable Foundation
Mrs. Laura J. Peffer Stuart graduated from the Cumberland Valley State Normal School, now Shippensburg University, in 1892. After graduation, she taught at the Chestnut Ridge one-room schoolhouse near Carlisle. She married Walter Stuart, Jr., whose two sisters, Margaret R. Stuart and Ella M. Stuart, also graduated as teachers from the Normal School in 1900 and 1905. She was the mother of three sons, Robert W. Stuart, George B. Stuart, and Henry L. Stuart. The rest of her life was devoted to being a mother and raising her family.
