Mary Beasley Burch
This scholarship was established through the estate of Mary Beasley Burch to assist underrepresented students in their pursuit of higher education. Mary was born in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, and moved to Newark, New Jersey, with her husband in the early 1940s. Burch passionately believed in the value of education and committed her life to serving children. A former teacher, she devoted many years of service to the Newark Board of Education and was at the forefront of the creation of Essex County College. Burch received numerous honors for her dedication and hard work in helping others. In 1974, she received the Jesse S. Heiges Distinguished Alumnus Award from Shippensburg State College.
