O. Richard Forsythe
Dr. O. Richard Forsythe graduated from Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1959 and began a secondary education teaching career. He received his master's degree from Duke University in 1963, completed additional graduate work, and returned to Shippensburg University as a professor of English in 1964. This marked the beginning of a 31-year distinguished career at Shippensburg University. He retired as Director of English Education and Communication Arts in 1995. Following his retirement from SU, he worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Education and also supervised students in the Teacher Intern Program at Wilson College. This scholarship was established at the time of Richard's retirement from the Shippensburg University faculty. Numerous colleagues, friends, and former students provided gifts in his honor, which will forever link his name to the preparation of future teachers at Shippensburg University. Dr. Forsythe also made personal gifts to build this scholarship.
