Wilbur O. Carthey
After completing high school, Wilbur Carthey served in the US Army. Following WWII, he prepared for a teaching career. After his doctoral studies were finished, he joined the faculty at Shippensburg University as Director of Elementary Education. In 1968 he was named Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and then served as Dean of the School of Education and Professional Studies from 1975 until his retirement in 1983. He served in many professional associations. This scholarship was established through contributions of friends and family in honor of his 18 years of service to Shippensburg University as a teacher and administrator.
