Dr. Thomas and Mrs. Joan Schroeder

After nearly 33 years of teaching chemistry at Shippensburg University, Dr. Thomas Schroeder considered the experience to be a true privilege in his life. Each day he looked forward to going to class, and he did his best to help young minds learn the basic theory and real-world applications of this wonderful branch of science. The greatest rewards came from the chemistry majors who wanted to explore more of the field by doing extra projects, assisting in labs, or conducting research. It is that type of student whom Dr. and Mrs. Schroeder hope to assist with this scholarship.
Mrs. Joan Schroeder was also an educator. Twice, she put her career on hold to care for their children while Dr. Schroeder worked on his advanced degrees and later established himself as part of the chemistry faculty. It was often necessary for Dr. Schroeder to spend long hours in the office or laboratory preparing for classes, but Joan still found time to earn her master's degree in reading at Shippensburg University and was an honors graduate.
Dr. and Mrs. Schroeder believe strongly in the future of Shippensburg University and its science students. They established this scholarship to assist students who plan to pursue a career in chemistry.
