Dr. Elnetta Jones and Dr. Beverly Butler
he Frances M. Banks Memorial Scholarship Fund honors retired Shippensburg University employee and community servant Frances M. Banks, who worked for the University for 20 years. The fund was established in recognition of the numerous contributions made to the University, its students, the Shippensburg community, and the region.
As a Shippensburg University employee, Francis assisted in household management of the Martin House for then-President Dr. Gilmore B. Seavers and his family. A wife and mother of seven children herself, she generously provided housing in her own home, food, and other needs for many students of color who did not have sufficient financial resources to meet all their expenses. Additionally, she served as an outstanding role model and inspiration for hundreds of students and graduates of all races, religions, and backgrounds.
