Judy K. Fogelsonger
Judy Fogelsonger graduated from Shippensburg University with an MBA in May 1982. This followed her undergraduate degree, a BS in Home Economics from Washington State University in June 1975 and completion of a Dietetic Internship at Emory University in 1976. She became a Registered Dietitian in early 1977.
After a year and a half at the University of Missouri Medical Center working as an out-patient dietitian, she relocated to Shippensburg. After working at two jobs that did not fully utilize her education, she decided to pursue an MBA at Shippensburg University to differentiate herself from other Registered Dietitians. During her MBA program, she found part-time work as a registered dietitian in three different Long Term Care Facilities. Upon completion of her degree, one of the facilities offered her a full-time job in a new position, the Director of Support Services. After 6 years, she took a new position at the Washington County Hospital as the Director of Nutrition Services. In 2008 she stepped up and served as Interim Director of Support Services. In 2012, she retired from the hospital after over 25 year of service.
Judy was continuously exposed to undergraduate students during her time in Shippensburg. She and her former husband always hosted a post-graduation reception for seniors and their families in the Math and Computer Science Department. Through conversations with students and others, Judy came to realize how fortunate she was to have parents who, through sacrifice, were able to finance her undergraduate and postgraduate education. As a first-generation college student, hard work and subsequent success were expected by herself as well as her parents. She was inspired to assist first-generation college students interested in business.
To succeed today, a college degree is essential, and a degree in Business can open unexpected doors. Judy hopes recipients of this scholarship will take advantage of all the opportunities that attending Shippensburg University presents.
