Laurie (Gripshover) Taylor
The Robert B. Gripshover, Jr. Memorial Baseball Scholarship was established by his wife, Laurie D. Gripshover following Rob’s passing in 1998. Rob showed his dedication to the game of baseball and the life experiences that it teaches by continuing his support of the Red Raiders Baseball Team throughout his life. The scholarship enhances the opportunities of student-athletes involved with Shippensburg University's baseball team.
During his time at Shippensburg University from 1972 to 1975, Rob developed and furthered his athletic ability as part of the baseball team. He played under famed head coach Art Fairchild. Rob was the team's leading starting pitcher in 1974, allowing just six earned runs in 31 innings while posting a 4-1 record and striking out 18 batters. Over his final three seasons, he compiled a 6-2 record, throwing 56.2 innings and posting a 2.22 earned-run average while striking out 31 batters.
After graduation 1975, Rob spent his career working in the banking industry, rising to the rank of Vice President with First Union Corporation. His positions took him from Pennsylvania, west to Oregon and California, and back to Pennsylvania. Throughout his post-collegiate years, Rob remained close to his college friends from Shippensburg, and was a regular financial supporter of the Ship baseball team.
Playing baseball was a true passion and after his years pitching at Shippensburg, Rob continued to play baseball throughout his adult life. During his years out west, Rob pitched on numerous championship men's teams.
Rob returned east to Philadelphia in 1989 to join Fidelity Bank. He immediately took his place on a Men's Senior Baseball League (MSBL) team.
