Located on a 186-acre campus in Greene Township Franklin County, the Scotland School for Veterans' Children (SSVC) was established in 1895. It was a state-owned school offering a tuition-free residential education program for children of living or deceased Pennsylvania veterans residing in the Commonwealth and those serving in the U.S. armed forces. It offered students a comprehensive residential living/learning enviromnent in which to grow and succeed. As well as the challenging academic curriculum, the SSVC supported the military tradition throug a JR OTC program and was proud of its accomplished sports teams. In 2009, funding for the school was removed from the Commonwealth's budget. The school consequently closed and the assets, held by the Foundation for the Scotland School for Veterans' Children, were distributed to other charitable organizations, including Shippensburg University Foundation. The Scotland School for Veterans' Children Scholarship Endowment has been established to benefit former graduates of the school, anyone directly related to a graduate or former employee of SSVC, or has a direct relationship to an honorably discharged veteran or active duty service person who is interested
