David A. Dolbin Jr. and Thomas M. Ramsburg
While a student at Shippensburg State College, Stephen A. Bumgarner was the football team's starting quarterback for three seasons, from 1966 to 1968. He also served as team co-captain for the 1968 season. At the time of his graduation, Stephen held 17 school passing records, including the career record for completions, yards gained, and touchdowns. He was the first Shippensburg football player to pass for more than 3,000 yards in his career. He finished his career with a record of 535 pass attempts, 263 completions, a 49.2 completion percentage, 3,352 yards, and 30 touchdowns. All of these marks were career records. He graduated from Shippensburg in 1969.
This scholarship fund was established in 1996 by Stephen’s family, friends, classmates, and teammates. Stephen was a great leader, both on and off the field while at Shippensburg, and throughout his professional career. This football scholarship memorializes an outstanding student-athlete and will serve as a means to instill Stephen Bumgarner's exceptional traits and qualities into future Shippensburg University student-athletes.
