M. Allan Warsing
Mr. Allan Warsing graduated from Saxton-Liberty High School (now Tussey Mountain High School) in Saxton, Pennsylvania, in 1960. Thanks to Sputnik and the need to improve science education, a National Defense Education Act student loan made it possible for him to continue his education at Shippensburg University. Allan received degrees from Shippensburg in 1964 and in 1966. He began his career in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, as a physics teacher. A National Science Foundation (NSF) Fellowship allowed him to receive an advanced degree from Brown University in 1971. He continued his teaching career and retired from Foxborough Public Schools in Massachusetts in 2003.
Mrs. Janice Warsing graduated from the University of Central Florida and taught science in public schools in North Carolina and Massachusetts. With a newly minted degree from Sarah Lawrence College, she changed professions and became a genetics counselor in Massachusetts. Janice passed away in 2022.
Both Allan and Janice were the first in their families to attain college degrees. They benefited from and recognized the power of higher education. Establishing this scholarship follows their long-held desire to help future students fulfill their own dreams of attaining a college education.
