Dr. Donald F. Mayer

Dr. Mayer served as a faculty member in Shippensburg University’s political science department from 1968 to 2005. During these years, he was fully devoted to his students and to enhancing the campus’s teaching and learning environment. He also taught in and coordinated the MPA program at the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he interacted with senior military officers and civilians to prepare them for senior leadership assignments and responsibilities.

His service with the Shippensburg University Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) included eight years as president, and over 30 years as a Shippensburg University delegate
to the APSCUF Legislative Assembly. Dr. Mayer was also very active at the statewide activities of APSCUF where he chaired or served on several committees including Meet and Discuss and Contract Negotiations. Early in his retirement, Dr. Mayer took on the volunteer role of president of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Retired Faculties (APSCURF) at the state and local levels.

Another facet of Dr. Mayer’s service
to the campus community is his extensive involvement with the Shippensburg University Foundation. For eight years (1997–2005) he served as the faculty liaison to the Board of Directors of the Shippensburg University Foundation. Since 2005, he has served as a voting member of the SU Foundation’s Board. Over the years, Dr. Mayer has also been involved with the SU Foundation as a volunteer for the campus campaign, phonathon, thankathon, Raiders Club Board and the Annual Fund leadership team.
