Drs. Richard D. Stone and Mary M. Graham

Richard D. Stone, Professor Emeritus of Marketing and Logistics and Dr. Mary M. Graham, Professor Emerita of Geography at York College of Pennsylvania have endowed the
Drs. Richard D. Stone and Mary M. Graham Men’s Basketball Scholarship to help deserving student-athletes at Shippensburg University who have established themselves as motivated students and committed athletes who are or will be making a strong contribution to the team.

Dr. Stone joined the John L. Grove College of Business at Shippensburg University in 1996 where he taught Principles of Marketing, Logistics Management, and Transportation Industry Theory and Practice until his retirement in 2011. He was also a founder of the Supply Chain Management Program.

A native of Boston, Dr. Stone grew up in Somerset, Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate degree in Management from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, in 1968.  Following four years in the U.S. Navy, he earned his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Transportation at Indiana University in 1974. Eventually he returned to IU to earn his doctorate in Marketing and Transportation in 1988. It was there that he developed a life-long passion for basketball.

During Dr. Stone’s first year at Shippensburg University, several members of the SU women’s basketball team were his students. He became their number one fan and since then has been an avid supporter of SU women’s basketball. He also became a fan of men’s basketball, even traveling out of state to show his support for the student-athletes. Besides basketball, Dr. Stone’s hobbies include traveling extensively world-wide to all seven continents, researching the Civil War, and reading about and traveling on trains. He is also an enthusiastic collector of music. In particular, he has a large selection of Louisiana music.

Dr. Stone is married to Dr. Mary M. Graham, Professor Emerita of Geography at York College of Pennsylvania. They met as doctoral students at Indiana University, with Mary already having a great basketball pedigree because she had two degrees from the University of Kentucky. They had many dates attending IU basketball games.

Mary can be seen with Dick at most of Shippensburg’s basketball games.
