Isabel Shannon

Isabel Frommeyer Shannon graduated from Shippensburg State Teachers College, now Shippensburg University, in 1949 with a degree in education. She was the daughter of a farmer and grew up in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Following graduation, Mrs. Shannon went on to become an educator, teaching at the high school level in several locations including the Philadelphia and Washington, DC, areas. She also worked at the University of Pennsylvania in medical research.

She resided in the Washington, DC, area, and was recognized as a community organizer and tireless volunteer. She was a docent at the Air and Space Museum, an avid traveler, an airplane pilot, and a loyal patron of the orchestra and ballet. She established the Joseph O. Frommeyer Memorial Scholarship through her estate to honor the memory of her late father Joseph O. Frommeyer, who instilled in her the value of hard work and the importance of education.
