Charlie and Wanda (Polk) Bankhead
Wanda Polk Bankhead graduated from Shippensburg State College (now Shippensburg University) in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Management in Business Administration. As an Act 101 student, she appreciated many opportunities provided at Shippensburg. She was a peer counselor, member of the Afro-AM Organization, Minority Affairs, and joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
After graduating from Shippensburg, Wanda maintained a close relationship with her alma mater. She served on the Shippensburg Alumni Association Board and was the Alumni Association Board President during 2004. Wanda currently serves on the Shippensburg University Foundation Board of Directors and the Annual Fund Leadership Team. Wanda co-chaired the Annual Fund during 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 fiscal years.
As a former Act 101 student, Wanda was encouraged to support Shippensburg students. The recent Act 101/Academic Success Program Scholarship was established by several Shippensburg University alumni including Wanda.
Charlie and Wanda were married in Alabama. Charlie served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and was in the 82nd Airborne. Charlie attended Columbia College and taught R.O.T.C. for 20 years. He serves as a trustee at their church, Ezion Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.
Charlie and Wanda understand the importance of higher education and helping those with a desire to achieve their goal.
