Kathleen and Philip Canal
Kathleen Canal graduated in the fall semester of 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. After a brief period as an educator, Kathleen spent several years in marketing and technical writing. The last three decades of her career involved Information Technology (IT) with a focus on software and systems engineering, quality assurance, strategic information management, and information systems security. She retired as a Program Manager in the Enterprise Solutions operating unit of a major US defense contractor.
Kathleen met her husband Philip when they were both working at a publishing company in Philadelphia. Philip received his bachelor’s degree from LaSalle College (now LaSalle University) in Philadelphia and his master’s degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University
in Daytona Beach, Florida. Although not a Ship graduate, Philip quickly became an integral member of Kathleen’s Shipmates and has participated in many alumni events and visits to campus.
Kathleen and Philip hope the financial support from this scholarship will enable future teachers to take full advantage of Ship’s excellent instruction and resources and inspire students to achieve their full potential.
