Alston and Alida Ellis
Alston and Alida Ellis are grateful for the financial support that enabled them to attend Shippensburg University. Inspired by their own experiences, they have taken steps to empower future students by establishing the Ellis Family Endowment Scholarship. This scholarship aims to provide others with the same opportunities they received, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of education and success.
“I earned a Board of Governors Scholarship, which was integral in my ability to financially afford college and further my education,” Alston shared. Along with an athletic basketball scholarship, it enabled him to attend college and achieve his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2003. A graduate assistantship enabled him to earn his MBA in 2007. “This opportunity opened doors for my career that I wouldn’t have had without the financial support from Shippensburg,” he remarked.
Alida earned her Bachelor of Social Work in 2004 and spent thirteen years working in various roles within the field. For the past three years, she has served as a substitute teacher in the Harrisburg School District. Alida shared, “Supporting and empowering students to achieve success through this scholarship is a meaningful way for us to give back while providing students with the support and opportunities we were fortunate to have is important to us.”
Alston has been the Chief Financial Officer at MIB since 2022, having joined the company in 2021 as the Vice President of Member Solutions. Before his tenure at MIB, he spent twelve years at Crump Life Insurance Services, where he held various leadership roles across multiple departments.
In 2022, Alston was honored as the Outstanding Young Alumnus. He is actively involved as a board member of the SU Foundation and previously served on the advisory board for the John L. Grove College of Business.
