There are many different scholarships based on a variety of criteria including academic merit, financial need, program of study, and geographic location among others. Please note, not all scholarships are available each year.

You are welcome to explore the scholarship at any time. However, to apply for a scholarship, you must have completed an application and been admitted to Shippensburg University.

To be considered for need-based scholarships, as well as federal and other aid, you are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://fafsa.ed.gov, by November 1st of your senior high school year.

1981 Football Team Scholarship

The 1981 Football Team Scholarship is for incoming freshmen student-athletes who intend to become members in good standing of Shippensburg University’s football team. Each recipient must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC, and Shippensburg University regulations. This scholarship is awarded through SU Athletics.


Abraham K. Smith Outstanding Student Scholarship

The Abraham K. Smith Outstanding Student Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1200 SAT score and class rank in the top 10%.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Alan D. Potena Memorial Scholarship

The Alan D. Potena Memorial Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with an 1000 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20%, majoring in Communication/Journalism (broadcasting). Financial need is also taken into consideration. First preference is given to students from Adams, Bucks, and York counties, Pennsylvania.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria


Albert A. Mason, Sr. Journalism Award

The Albert A. Mason, Sr. Journalism Award is for a sophomore or junior majoring in Journalism with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 who has been active in extracurricular activities associated with his/her field of study.  Please contact the Chair of the Communication/Journalism Department for more information.  This is a one year only scholarship.


Albert Lindsay Rowland and Ruth Hodge Scholarship

The Albert Lindsay Rowland and Ruth Hodge Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1000 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20%, entering an undergraduate degree program administered by the College of Education and Human Services.  Students must be registered with the SU Office of Disabilities.  Please contact the Office of Disabilities for more information.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Amanda K. Strous Memorial Field Hockey Scholarship

The Amanda K. Strous Memorial Field Hockey Scholarship is for seniors in good standing, who are members of SU's field hockey team. Each recipient must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC, and nstitutional regulations. Recipients must exemplify the following characteristics: positive team player and desire to improve their skills, willingness to help others both on and off the field, strong bond of love for family and SU field hockey family. This scholarship is awarded through SU Athletics


Angle-Feeser Family Scholarship

The Angle-Feeser Family Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or above. The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Angus Family Scholarship

The Angus Family Scholarship is for incoming freshmen majoring in Teacher Education or a degree in the College of Business. Applicants must have an 1100 SAT score, a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and rank in the top 20% of their high school class. Preference will be given to students who have been active in clubs and organizations or who have volunteered in the local community. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Ann Baldwin Taylor Scholarship

The Ann Baldwin Taylor Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20%, majoring in majoring in Elementary Education.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Anna Davis and David C. Smith Scholarship

The Anna Davis and David C. Smith Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1050 SAT score and class rank in the upper 50% majoring in Teacher Education. Preference will be given to 1. graduates of the Mt. Lebanon School District 2. graduates of Perry or Juniata County i. enrolling in Shippensburg University’s English Department (Secondary Education), ii. pursuing teacher certification in another Secondary Education field, iii. enrolling in Shippensburg University’s Elementary Education Department  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Annabel Heberlig Eisenberg Scholarship

The Annabel Heberlig Eisenberg Scholarship  is presented to incoming freshmen pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in education within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Recipients must have scored a minimum of 1100 on the SAT examination and graduated in the upper 20 percent of their high school class.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Anthony F. and Valerie Ceddia Leadership Scholarship

Recipients of the Anthony F. and Valerie Ceddia Leadership Scholarship must be full-time junior or senior undergraduates who have demonstrated leadership within a campus organization during the early part of his or her campus experience and have demonstrated good character and citizenship.  Please contact the Campus Life office for more information. . The scholarship may be retained through the student's senior year, if awarded to a junior, providing the student maintains eligible.


Averell Harris Football Scholarship

Recipients of this scholarship must be incoming freshmen student-athletes who intend to become members in good standing of Shippensburg University’s football team. Each recipient must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC, and Shippensburg University regulations. This scholarship is awarded through SU Athletics.


Barbara Jones Swartley Memorial Scholarship

The Barbara Jones Swartley Memorial Scholarship is for incoming students, with financial need, majoring in Elementary/Middle Level Education.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Bard Townhouses Scholarship

The Bard Townhouses Scholarship is for students with a minimum 3.3 GPA who reside in Bard Townhouses. Please contact the Bard Townhouses housing office for more information.  The scholarship may be retained through the student's senior year providing the student maintains a 3.3 QPA.


Benjamin S. Nispel Scholarship

The Benjamin S. Nispel Scholarship is for a senior student enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences, with a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, who has provided outstanding service to the Shippensburg University campus community.  Please contact the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office for more information.


Bennie S. Truax Scholarship

The Bennie S. Truax Scholarship is for students with 90 credits and a mimimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average  who are in their second year of service on the Shippensburg University Band staff and demonstrate leadership and dedication through their activities in the marching band and/or concert band. Character and citizenship are also taken into consideration. Please contact the Department of Music and Theatre Arts for more information.  This is a one year only scholarshp.


Biology Senior Award

The Biology Senior Award is for Biology majors who have completed 85 credits or more, 60 of which were earned at Shippensburg University (including those earned at any college while a high school student) prior to the first semester during which they receive the award. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5.  Preference given to students with demonstrated contributions to the department and/or community.  Please contact the Chair of the Biology Department for more information.


Board of Governors Scholarship

For a Pennsylvania Residents Only. Full tuition waiver for valedictorian and salutatorian; $5,000 a year for other scholarship recipients. Preferance given to students with 1200 or above SAT scores and 3.5 GPA majoring in STEM majors.


Brian Christman Memorial Scholarship for the Department of Music and Theater Arts

The Brian Christman Memorial Scholarship for the Department of Music and Theater Arts is for students enrolled in any undergraduate degree program at Shippensburg University. Students must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA. Applicants must demonstrate an ability and aptitude for the performing arts and must audition in their area of expertise and declare a Music or Theater minor if awarded the scholarship. Brian L. Heckler Accounting Scholarship

The Brian L. Heckler Accounting Scholarship is for incoming freshmen majoring in Accounting with an 1100 SAT score, a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and class rank in the upper 20%. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Brooke Ashley Weaver Memorial Scholarship

The Brooke Ashley Weaver Memorial Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with an 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20% who are enrolled in an undergraduate degree program administered by the John L. Grove College of Business. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA , and display good character and citizenship. The recipient must have participated, on a voluntary basis, in at least one community service activity.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


C. Donald Barbush Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen student-athletes who intend to become members in good standing of Shippensburg University’s men's basketball team. Each recipient must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC, and Shippensburg University regulations and demonstrate good character and citizenship. This scholarship is awarded through SU Athletics.


Carl A. Naugle Family Graduate Fellowship

The Carl A. Naugle Family Graduate Fellowship is for a full-time graduate student, with a 3.2 cumulative GPA in their undergraduate degree, pursuing a Master of Science degree in either college student personnel work or college counseling.  Please contact the Counseling and College Student Personnel Department for more information.  The scholarship may be retained for two years providing the student maintains a 3.2 QPA.


Catherine H. Ellenberger Scholarship

The Catherine H. Ellenberger Scholarship is presented to a full-time graduate student in the Counseling Program at Shippensburg University pursuing a Master of Education degree and specializing in the Elementary School Counseling or in the Secondary School Counseling Program.  Please contact the Counseling Department for more information.  


Charles H. Diller, Jr. and Jane Eagle Diller Scholarship - East Pennsboro High School

The Charles H. Diller, Jr. and Jane Eagle Diller Scholarship is for incoming freshmen from East Pennsboro High School, enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in 1. the John L. Grove College of Business or 2. any major in any of the colleges at Shippensburg University. Applicants must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA, rank in upper 20% of high school class, and demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Chris and Robin Pruitt College of Business Scholarship

The Chris and Robin Pruitt College of Business Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with an 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20%, entering an undergraduate degree program administered by the John L. Grove College of Business. Recipients must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Christine Picklo Scholarship

The Christine Picklo Scholarship is for incoming students with a 3.0 cumulative GPA entering an undergraduate degree program in the following majors: Biology, Biology Secondary Ed., Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Earth and Space Science, Geoenvironmental Studies, Sustainability, Mathematics, Mathematics Secondary Ed., Applied Physics, Chemistry, Chemistry Secondary Ed., Physics, Physics Secondary Ed. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Christopher Heilman World Cup Award

The recipient of the Christopher Heilman World Cup Award must be a member in good standing of Shippensburg University's football team. It will be awarded to an athlete who demonstrates leadership, both on and off the field; inspirational character; and perseverance. The recipient should be that athlete who, as a role model, inspires others to do their best, and promotes the type of team unity that carries beyond his playing days.  This scholarship is awarded through SU Athletics.


Clarence Schock Fellowship

Current Clarence Schock Scholarship recipients in their junior year of study are eligible for the Clarence Schock Fellowship Program. 

Through their credentials and portfolio, students should demonstrate:
  • strong evidence of academic achievement
  • public service
  • commitments to environmental preservation
  • enhancing the quality of life in the communities where they live and study
  • demonstrate an understanding of Clarence Schock’s respect for education and personal philanthropy

Clarence Schock Scholarship

For incoming freshmen with academic promise residing in the Clarence Schock heartland, which includes Adams, Berks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York counties in Pennsylvania. Applicants who do not live in one of these areas may still qualify if graduating from one of the following high schools: Shippensburg, Boyertown, Spring Ford, or Williams Valley in Pennsylvania, or Delmar in Delaware.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Class of 1908-Earle H. Scheaffer Scholarship

The Class of 1908-Earle H. Scheaffer Scholarship is for a student who has completed his/her sophomore or junior year and has demonstrated academic excellence, good character, leadership skills, and an interest in the teaching profession.  This is a one year only scholarship.


Class of 1933 Scholarship

The Class of 1933 Scholarship is given to a sophomore or junior education major based on financial need, academic excellence, good character, and participation in extracurricular activities.  Please contact the Chair of the Education Department for more information.  This is a one year only scholarship.


Class of 1949 - Dr. J. Bernard Hogg Memorial Scholarship

The Class of 1949 - Dr. J. Bernard Hogg Memorial Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1000 SAT score and class rank in the top 20%, residing in Pennsylvania, and majoring in Teacher Education. Financial need must be demonstrated by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Class of 1950 Scholarship

The Class of 1950 Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1000 SAT score and class rank in the top 20% and majoring in Teacher Education.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Class of 1954 Scholarship

The Class of 1954 Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1000 SAT score and class rank in the top 20% and majoring in Teacher Education.


Class of 1955 Scholarship

The Class of 1955 Scholarship is for incoming freshmen residing in Pennsylvania and majoring in Teacher Education. Financial need must be demonstrated by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Class of 1958 Scholarship

The Class of 1958 Scholarship is for incoming freshmen residing in Pennsylvania with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants should demonstrate good character and citizenship.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Clyde L. Cressler Wrestling Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen student-athletes who intend to become members in good standing of Shippensburg University’s wrestling team or who are current members in good standing of Shippensburg University’s wrestling team. Each recipient must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC, and Shippensburg University regulations and demonstrate good character, leadership qualities and a sense of purpose in life beyond wrestling.  This scholarship is awarded through SU Athletics.


Computer Science Scholarship

The Computer Science Scholarship is for incoming students, preferably freshmen, who are computer science majors. Recipient selection is based on ability and projected promise only.  This scholarship is available for one year only.


Craig K. Swavely Memorial Scholarship

The Craig K. Swavely Memorial Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1000 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20% who demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA. Preference is given to 1. graduates of Antietam School District and the Exeter School District 2. graduates from Berks County, Pennsylvania.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Crouse Geo-Environmental Science Scholarship

The recipient of the Crouse Geo-Environmental Science Scholarship must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 within their major and must have achieved junior status (60+ credit hours completed) prior to receiving this scholarship. This scholarship is renewable for the recipient’s senior year provided they maintain the required GPA and remain enrolled in the Geoenvironmental Studies program. Preference for graduates of Shippensburg Area School District.  Please contact the Chair of the Geography Earth Science Department for more information.


Darby D. and Joseph H. Muggio Scholarship

The Darby D. and Joseph H. Muggio Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 25%, majoring in Elementary Education. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


David C. & Beverly F. Boose Scholarship

The David C. & Beverly F. Boose Scholarship is for incoming freshmen who intend to major in Elementary Education or History. Applicants must have an SAT score of 1100, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


David Cleeland See Memorial Soccer Scholarship

The David Cleeland See Memorial Soccer Scholarship is for an incoming freshman who intends to become a member in good standing of SU's men's soccer team. Each recipient must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC, and institutional regulations and have a 2.0 QPA. This scholarship is awarded through SU Athletics.


Dean David and Margaret Dolbin Football Scholarship

Recipients of the Dean David and Margaret Dolbin Football Scholarship must be incoming freshmen student-athletes who intend to become members in good standing of Shippensburg University’s football team. Each recipient must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC, and Shippensburg University regulations. A recipient must have a minimum score of 1000 out of 1600 on the SAT (or equivalent) and have graduated in the upper one-quarter of their high school class.  This scholarship awarded through SU Athletics.


Dean David and Margaret Dolbin Residence Life Scholarship

The Dean David and Margaret Dolbin Residence Life Scholarship annual scholarship is for a student serving in at least his or her second semester as an undergraduate Residence Assistant with satisfactory academic standing. Please contact the Campus Life office for more information.


Dev Hathaway Memorial English Department Scholarship

The Dev Hathaway Memorial English Department Scholarship is presented to entering freshmen enrolled in an undergraduate degree program administered by the English Department. Recipients must have scored a minimum of 1300 on the SAT examination, graduated in the top fifth of their high school class, and achieved at least a 3.5 GPA in high school.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dick and Jeane Eschenmann Athletic Scholarship

Recipients of this one year scholarship must be a student-athlete who is a member in good standing of the women’s intercollegiate basketball program at Shippensburg University. A recipient must meet all applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional eligibility regulations and financial aid requirements. In the opinion of the head women’s basketball coach, every recipient should demonstrate good character and citizenship. This scholarship is awarded through SU Athletics.


Dickinson Scholarship

The Dickinson Scholarship is for incoming freshmen, with a 950 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20%, residing in Bedford, Blair or Huntingdon County (PA), with priority consideration given to graduates of Tussey Mountain School District (Bedford County, PA).  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dinger Scholarship

For incoming freshmen from Tri-Valley High School (Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania) with preference for a student enrolled in the College of Business. Recipients must have achieved a minimum score of 1100 on the SAT examination and graduated in the upper one-fifth of their high school class.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dora Addams Scholarship

The Dora Addams Scholarship is for incoming freshmen majoring in Art with a minimum SAT score of 1000 and rank in the top 20% of their high school class. Recipients must maintain a 2.8 cumulative GPA at the end of each academic year, complete a minimum of twelve credits per semester, and remain enrolled as an Art major.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dorothy S. Weaver Memorial Scholarship

The Dorothy S. Weaver Memorial Scholarship is for incoming freshmen majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education. Applicants are required to complete the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Doug and Angela Besch Scholarship

The Doug and  Angela Besch Scholarship is for Accounting majors with a cumulative 3.0 GPA who have completed at least 60 credits at Shippensburg University prior to benefiting from the scholarship. Recipients must be citizens of the United States.  Please contact the Chair of the Accounting Department for more information. The scholarship may be retained through the student's senior year providing the student maintains a 3.0 QPA.


Douglas and Janice Gearhart Family Scholarship

For incoming freshmen students majoring in Elementary Education or Secondary Education with an SAT score of 1100 and a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. Alfred V. Gunter Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Alfred V. Gunter Memorial Scholarship is for incoming or current freshmen Biology majors with an 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20%.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. and Mrs. Robert C. Harper Scholarship

The Dr. and Mrs. Robert C. Harper Scholarship is for students completing 60 credits, with a 2.5 cumulative GPA, majoring in a degree offered in Geography/Earth Science Department.  Please contact the Geography Earth Science Department for more information. The scholarship may be retained through the student's senior year, if awarded to a junior, providing the student maintains a 2.5 QPA.


Dr. Angelo and Mrs. Dolores Costanzo Scholarship

The Dr. Angelo and Mrs. Dolores Costanzo Scholarship is for incoming students with a 1050 SAT score and class rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school class.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. Bartos and Dr. Hockersmith College of Education & Human Services Dean's Scholarship

The Dr. Bartos and Dr. Hockersmith College of Education & Human Services Dean's Scholarship is for students majoring in a degree offered in the College of Education and Human Services who have completed 60 credits before receiving the scholarship and who have a GPA or 3.0 or above.  Please contact the Dean's Office in the College of Education and Human Services. The scholarship may be retained through the student's senior year providing the student maintains a 3.0 QPA.


Dr. Brenda M. Wheeler Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Brenda M. Wheeler Memorial Scholarship is for juniors or seniors, who have acheived professional status, with a 3.0 GPA majoring in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade (elementary education) or fourth grade through eighth grade (middle level/elementary education). Applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  Please contact the chair of the Education Department for more information.  The scholarship may be retained through the student's senior year providing the student maintains a 3.0 QPA.


Dr. Dilys Martha Jones Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Dilys Martha Jones Memorial Scholarship is for incoming freshmen majoring in teacher education with a class rank in the top 20% and an 1000 SAT score.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. Donnie Miller Swimming Scholarship

For members in good standing or incoming freshmen who intend to become a member of SU's men's swim team. Each recipient must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC, and institutional regularions. Scholarship awarded through SU Athletics.


Dr. Edward S. Goodhart Scholarship

The Dr. Edward S. Goodhart Scholarship is for incoming freshmen majoring in Accounting with an 1200 SAT score and class rank in upper 20%. Preference for graduates from the Shippensburg Area School District.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. Elnetta G. Jones Scholarship

For an incoming freshman majoring initially in Exploratory Studies with an class rank in the upper 40% and an SAT score in the range of 1150 to 1200.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. Emil and Dr. Emil and Vera Bej Scholarship

The Dr. Emil and Vera Bej Scholarship is for incoming freshmen majoring in Economics, who have graduated in the top 25% of their high school class. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and are required to complete the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. Gerald A. Leidy Outstanding Student Scholarship

The Dr. Gerald A. Leidy Outstanding Student Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1200 SAT score and class rank in the upper 10%, majoring in Elementary and/or Secondary Education.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. Harry D. and Virginia Schell Sweely Scholarship

The Dr. Harry D. and Virginia Schell Sweely Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20% majoring in Elementary Education.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. Harry L. Kriner Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Harry L. The Dr. Hugh M. and Kathryn Aberman Psychology Scholarship is for incoming freshmen majoring in Psychology who are residents of Pennsylvania. Applicants must have a 1200 SAT score, cumulative GPA of 3.25, and class rank in the top 20%. The Dr. Hugh M. and Kathryn Aberman Scholarship for an Honors Program Student is for incoming freshmen who have been accepted into the Honors Program. Preference is given to students majoring in Psychology. If there are no eligible students, the scholarship may be awarded to an Honors Program student in any major.  Applicants must have a 1200 SAT score, cumulative GPA of 3.25 and class rank in the top 20%. Dr. Irene Gnarra International Studies Scholarship

The  Dr. Irene Gnarra International Studies Scholarship is for a female student who has completed 15 credits and is majoring in International Studies with a concentration in Europe. Applicants must take two courses in French at the 200-level or higher while benefiting from this scholarship. Preference will be given to students from Allegheny or Beaver counties. The Dr. James R. and Phyllis B. Geyer Teacher Education Scholarship is for incoming Education majors with an 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20%.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. Jane H. Ehemann Scholarship

Recipients of the Dr. Jane H. Ehemann Scholarship must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree administered by the Geography/Earth Science Department. Dr. Jere R. Holman Science and Mathematics Education Scholarship

The Dr. Jere R. Holman Science and Mathematics Education Scholarship is for students with 30 credits and a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, majoring in elementary/middle level education with a teaching concentration in science and/or mathematics. The Dr. John R. Smeltz '39 Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with an 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20%, majoring in Chemistry or Physics Secondary Education. Preference will be given 1. to students graduating from the West Shore School District 2. any student from PA or out-of-state student. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Dr. Kimberly L. Bright Scholarship

The Dr. Kimberly L. Bright Scholarship is for students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program leading to a Certification or Masters in Special Education. Undergraduate students must have completed sixty (60) credits to qualify and have completed at least nine (9) credits of Special Education coursework.  Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.  The scholarship may be retained through the undergraduate student's senior year or through completion of graduate courses providing the student remains eligible.


Dr. Louise J. Lienemann Chemistry Scholarship

The Dr. Louise J. Lienemann Chemistry Scholarship is awarded to a junior chemistry major demonstrating academic excellence and an interest in pursing a graduate degree. Character, citizenship, and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale are factors in selecting the recipient.  The scholarship may be retained through the student's senior year, if awarded to a junior, providing the student maintains a 3.0 QPA.


Dr. Max E. and Nancy H. Creager Education Scholarship

The Dr. Max E. and Nancy H. Creager Education Scholarship is for incoming freshmen from PA majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and an 1100 SAT score. Dr. Max G. Cooley Scholarship

The Dr. Max G. Cooley Scholarship is for an Accounting major who has completed 60 credits and has a GPA of 3.0. The recipient should possess good character, citizenship, and must have a recommendation from a faculty member within the Accounting department.  The scholarship may be retained through the student's senior year, if awarded to a junior, providing the student maintains a 3.0 QPA.


Dr. Mohandas Baliga Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Mohandas Baliga Memorial Scholarship is for a junior majoring in Political Science who demonstrates academic excellence and promise of professional success.  This is a one year only scholarship.


Dr. Nathan K. Mao Scholarship

The Dr. Nathan K. Mao Scholarship is for graduate or incoming freshman students who are Chinese from Taiwan, Hong Kong or the People's Republic of China. Applicants must have a high school or collegiate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or home country equivalent. 

Students are required to submit a short essay outlining why they are eligible for this scholarship and their career goals when applying for the scholarship.

The scholarship is renewable providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.

The Dr. Parker '66 and Barbara Martin Scholarship is for students who have completed 60 credits at Shippensburg University and be enrolled in the BSEd in Special Education PreK-8 and the PreK-4 Early Childhood/Elementary Education or 4-8 Elementary/Middle Education dual certification program. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.

The Dr. Paul F. and Elizabeth Hoffeditz Cauffman Scholarship is an annual scholarship for a junior or senior mathematics education major who demonstrates outstanding academic excellence and personal qualities. Students must have a GPA of 2.9 or above to qualify.


Dr. Paul L. and Mildred Hertzler Stone Scholarship

The Dr. Paul L. and Mildred Hertzler Stone Scholarship is for incoming freshmen majoring in Elementary Education. Recipients must demonstrate good character and citizenship and show evidence of involvement in their community and extracurricular activities.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.

The Dr. Ray and Mrs. Marjorie Sunderland Study Abroad Scholarship is for undergraduate students majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education who desire to complete a student teaching assignment in an educational setting outside the United States of America. First preference is given to students studying in England, Scotland, or Wales. Student must complete the FAFSA to be considered for this scholarship. Dr. Robert L. Hewitt Vision for Excellence in Social Work Scholarship

The Dr. Robert L. Hewitt Vision for Excellence in Social Work Scholarship is for a senior receiving his/her degree from the Social Work Department. Recipient must possess professional standing within the department, a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, and a 3.0 grade point average in social work. Recipient must demonstrate leadership ability and a commitment to the profession of social work. Financial need is also taken into consideration.

The one-year Fogelsonger Scholarship is presented to a full-time student enrolled in an undergraduate degree program administered by the John L. Grove College of Business at Shippensburg University.  It is awarded to a student who plans to pursue a career in the insurance and/or financial services industry. The Giant Food Stores Business Administration Scholarship/Internship is for a junior or senior Business Administration major with a cumulative 3.0 GPA. Recipient must agree to complete an official, compensated internship with Giant Food Stores.


Gladys L Bender Scholarship

The Gladys L Bender Scholarship book fund scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate juniors or seniors who complete a minimum of twelve credits per semester while benefiting from the scholarship. Preference is given 1. to student employees of the Shippensburg University Bookstore 2. to students engaged in volunteer service in the Ceddia Union Building. First preference forincoming freshmen with a 3.0 QPA and class rank of 25%, enrolled in a degree program in the College of Education and Human Services or the John L. Grove College of Business, and who intend to become members of the SU Football team. Second preference is for sophomore students who have a 3.0 QPA, enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in the College of Education and Human Services or the John L. This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen student-athletes who intend to become members in good standing of Shippensburg University’s baseball team. Each recipient must be a legal resident of Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry or York counties and must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC, and Shippensburg University regulations. Harold U. and Helen F. Crouse Business Scholarship

The Harold U. and Helen F. Crouse Business Scholarship is a scholarship for a College of Business student who has completed 60 credits, maintained a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and a 3.0 grade point average within his/her major, and demonstrated strong leadership abilities.  This is a one year only scholarship.

The Harriet Wylie Stewart Scholarship is for a graduate of the Shippensburg Area School District with first preference given to applicants from the Middle Spring community. The recipient must demonstrate academic excellence, outstanding character, and citizenship. The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Harry and Elizabeth Chapman Scholarship

The Harry and Elizabeth Chapman Scholarship is for incoming freshmen from Pennsylvania, preferably Cumberland Valley High School graduates, with an 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 15% of their HS class.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Helen I. Lower Elementary Education Scholarship

The Helen I. Lower Elementary Education Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with an 1000 SAT score and class rank in the top 40%, majoring in Elementary Education who demonstrate financial need and academic promise.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.

Students should submit an essay indicating their interest in education and one or more letters of recommendation with their application.

History Department Scholarship

The History Department Scholarship is for students with at least 60 credits, a 3.25 cumulative GPA, majoring in an undergraduate degree program administered by the History Department.

Applicants must submit:
  • a portfolio, record or other evidence of their work in their history courses
  • a brief application essay outlining their qualifications for the scholarship

The Ignatios and Anastasia Prokop & John L. Prokop Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with an SAT score of 1000 and class rank in the upper 20%, who are majoring in Management Information Systems or English Secondary Education. Priority is given to students from Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, and York counties.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Ivin S. and Virginia D. Bear Scholarship

The Ivin S. and Virginia D. Bear Scholarship is for incoming freshmen who are residents of one of the following counties in central Pennsylvania: Adams, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, or York and who demonstrate high promise and good academic credentials. Financial need must be demonstrated by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


J. Stewart and Jane G. Askins Scholarship

Jack Ford Scholarship

The Jack Ford Scholarship, one-year scholarship, is awarded to a full-time graduate student within the Geography/Earth Science Department who will complete at least six graduate credits during the semester in which he/she benefits from the scholarship.

Jameel R. Johnson ROTC Scholarship

The Jameel R. Johnson ROTC Scholarship is for students with 60 credits and a 2.75 cumulative GPA, who are citizens of the United States, and are contracted into the ROTC program at Shippensburg University with a focused intent to serve as a commissioned officer for at least 4 years in the US Army. Financial need must be demonstrated by completing the FAFSA. James A. Gehr Family Scholarship

The James A. Gehr Family Scholarship is for incoming freshmen majoring in any degree program in the College of Business who have an SAT score of 1000 and a cumulative GPA of 3.2. Applicants must be legal residents of PA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


James Coupe Memorial Field Hockey Scholarship

This award is presented annually to a senior female varsity athlete who holds a high academic average after the completion of seven semesters at Shippensburg University and who also exemplifies high standards of character, sportsmanship, and leadership in the total women’s athletic program. Scholarship awarded through SU Athletics.


Jane G. Goss Field Hockey Scholarship

For a senior student-athlete who is a member of the SU field hockey team. Recipient must exemplify high standards of character and sportsmanship while demonstrating team leadership and bringing benefit to SU's womens athletic program. Scholarship awarded through SU Athletics.


Janet Chapman Muscarella Scholarship

The Janet Chapman Muscarella Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with an SAT score of 1100 and a cumulative GPA of 3.0, majoring in Biology. Applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.

The Jeff and Sharon Lee Student Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with a 950 SAT score, a 3.0 GPA, and who have demonstrated financial need by completing the FAFSA. John G. and Julia F. Geiling Memorial Scholarship

The John G. and Julia F. Geiling Memorial Scholarship is for incoming full-time freshmen with SAT scores of 1200 or more who rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school class. The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


John L. and Cora I. Grove Scholars Program

The John L. and Cora I. Grove Scholars Program is for incoming freshmen enrolled in the John L. Grove College of Business with an 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 20%. The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.

Transfer students with 60 credits and a 3.5 grade point average from their previous college or university are also eligible. 


John M. and Shirley Aichele Scholarship

The John M. and Shirley Aichele Scholarship is for transfer students who have completed at least one year at Harrisburg Area Community College. Preference for applicants graduating from a high school located in Derry Township, Dauphin County, or from Lower Dauphin High School, Dauphin County. Applicants must have an 1100 SAT score and a 3.0 cumulative GPA from Harrisburg Area Community College.  The scholarship may be retained until the student's senior year providing the student remains eligible.


John Weldon Scott Scholarship

The John Weldon Scott Scholarship is for incoming or current freshmen with a 2.8 cumulative GPA, majoring in French or Spanish (BA), with or without Secondary Education Certification, or in International Management (BSBA) or who have a minor in Ethnic Studies, French, German, Spanish, or International Studies.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Joseph W. McCrae Scholarship

The Joseph W. McCrae Scholarship is for incoming freshmen, residents of Pennsylvania, with a 3.3 GPA and class rank in the upper 33% majoring in Elementary Education or Secondary Education. Preference for graduates of the Bristol Township School District (Levittown, PA) or its successor.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Juanita Condon Memorial Scholarship

The Juanita Condon Memorial Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with preference for students enrolled in the Academic Success Program. For an incoming freshman who intends to become a member in good standing of an SU intercollegiate team with first preference for a minority student. Scholarship awarded through SU Athletics.


Kish-Miller Family Study Abroad Scholarship

Applicants of the Kish-Miller Family Study Abroad Scholarship must have completed 45 credits and be registered with SU's Office of International Programs for an accredited study abroad experience for the first time. Preference is given to students who 1. have graduated from a high school in Franklin or Fulton County PA or 2. are the first in their family to attend college. Laura J. Peffer Stuart Memorial Scholarship

The Laura J. Peffer Stuart Memorial Scholarship is for a student demonstrating academic promise from 1. Carlisle 2. the townships surrounding Carlisle 3. Cumberland County, PA. The Lawrence Tyson Wolfram Memorial Scholarship is for students with 30 or more credits, or a graduate student,  enrolled in the geography/earth science or geoenvironmental program. Selection is based upon achieving a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale, personal character, and financial need.  This is a one year only scholarship.

The Lillian Gertrude Bodes Kovach Memorial Scholarship is for entering freshmen majoring in Elementary Education with a 1000 SAT score and class rank in the upper 50%. The Lt. Col. Barbara B. Cross Scholarship is for incoming freshmen from Pennsylvania who intend to enroll in the ROTC program at Shippensburg University. First preference will be given to applicants who major in a degree program in any of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematic disciplines or Supply Chain Management. Applicants for the Nate and Lynne Douty Scholarship must have completed at least 60 credits at Shippensburg University or transferred 60 credits from Harrisburg Area Community College, be enrolled in a degree program in the College of Arts and Sciences, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to first generation students.  The scholarship may be retained through the student's senior year providing the student maintains a 3.0 QPA.

The Nevin B. Montgomery Scholarship is for students completing 90 credits, with a 3.0 cumulative GPA, who are residents of PA, majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education.


Norman E. Greenawalt Scholarship

The Norman E. Greenawalt Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with an 1100 SAT score and class rank of upper 20%. Priority consideration given to students from Cumberland or Franklin Counties with preference for Shippensburg Area High School graduate.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


O. Richard Forsythe English Education Scholarship

The O. Richard Forsythe English Education Scholarship is for incoming full-time freshmen who have declared themselves Teacher Education candidates for certification purposes in the subject area of English. Applicants are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to be considered for this scholarship.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


PASSHE AT&T Stem Award

Funded by AT&T, the purpose of this award is to improve retention and completion rates of students majoring in a STEM related program which will impact the computer technology, advanced manufacturing and energy industries.


PASSHE Greenlee (William) scholarship

The William D. Greenlee Scholarship was founded by Greenlee Partners to honor William (Bill) Greenlee, founder of the firm. Mr. Greenlee had more than 45 years experience in government, public relations and journalism. Early in his career he worked as a print, radio and TV reporter which led to his involvement in politics and government.

In 1980 he founded Greenlee Associates, a prominent lobbying and business strategies firm with offices in Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. In 2000, the firm’s name was changed to Greenlee Partners.

Among his numerous accomplishments throughout his vast and elaborate career, Mr. Greenlee’s was most proud of his service to the community through a number of local charities including serving as the Chair of the Board of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Foundation. The William D. Greenlee Scholarship is a fitting tribute to a gentleman who gave generously of himself to help others.




PASSHE Hershey Entertainment & Resort Scholarship

HE&R is providing five (5) state system students, who are pursuing a degree that benefits the hospitality industry, such as: hospitality, marketing, human resources, information technology or criminal justice, with a $1,000 scholarship. The students will receive $1,000 be used for tuition and fees for the fall 2018 semester. Scholarship sponsored by the University for high achieving freshman and transfer students. Guaranteed scholarship for high school students with a 1200 SAT and a 3.5 CGPA. Transfer students with a 3.0 CGPA with at least 30 credits completed.  High school students with a 1100 and 3.25 can also receive consideration. $2,000 a year renewable for 4 years.


Ralphine and Gary Gentzler Scholarship

The Ralphine and Gary Gentzler Scholarship is for incoming Elementary Education majors with an 1100 SAT score, cumulative GPA of 3.0 and HS rank in top 20%. The Robert D. Gimmi Scholarship is for upper division students who have completed 85 credits and are enrolled in any degree program administered by the College of Education and Human Services. Robert E. "Bucky" Ward Athletic Scholarship

The Robert E. "Bucky" Ward Athletic Scholarship is for (1) incoming student-athletes or (2) upper division student-athletes graduating from Parkland High School who intend to become, or are, members in good standing of SU's intercollegiate athletic program. The Smith Elliot Kearns & Company, LLC Scholarship is for students with 30 credits and a 3.0 cumulative GPA majoring in Accounting. Recipients must be residents of Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, or York County in Pennsylvania or Allegany, Frederick, Garrett, or Washington County in Maryland. The Stephen A. Bumgarner Memorial Scholarship is a one year scholarship awarded to a student athlete who has completed sixty (60) or more undergraduate credits and is a member in good standing of Shippensburg University's football team. It will be awarded to an athlete who demonstrates leadership both on and off the field; inspirational character; and perseverance. The recipient should be that athlete who, as a role model, inspires others to do their best, and promotes the type of team unity that carries beyond his playing days. The Steven E. Ketterer Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship is for students intending to study abroad who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. The Volvo Construction Equipment North America LLC, Scholarship/Internship is for incoming freshmen, with a 1200 SAT score and class rank in the upper 10%, who are majoring in a degree program in the College of Business or the Engineering program. Applicants must agree to a compensated internship at Volvo during the summer between their junior and senior year.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.

Morris Scholarship for Math and Science Secondary Education is for incoming freshmen or current students with a 3.0 cumulative GPA majoring in Mathematics and/or Science Secondary Education. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA in high school mathematics and science courses and demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


William K. Nitterhouse Scholarship

The William K. Nitterhouse Scholarship is for incoming freshmen from Franklin County with an 1100 SAT score, cumulative GAP of 3.0 and class rank in the top 20%, who are enrolled in the College of Business. Students must demonstrate need by completing the FAFSA.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Women's Lacrosse Scholarship

The Women's Lacrosse Scholarship is for members in good standing or incoming freshmen who intend to become a member of SU's women's lacrosse team. Each recipient must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC, and institutional regularions. This scholarship is awarded through SU Athletics.


Z_Award Test

The Franklin O. Wisman Finance Scholarship is for incoming freshmen with an 1100 SAT score, 3.0 cumulative GPA and class rank in the upper 20% majoring in Finance. Recipients will participate in the Investment Management Program in their senior year. Applicants should demonstrate interest and potential leadership skills through involvement in extra-curricula activities.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.


Zachary Topper Memorial Football Scholarship

Scholarship awarded through SU Athletics. For student-athletes who are members in good standing of SU's football team. Each applicant must also meet all applicable NCAA, PSAC and nstitutional regulations and have a 3.0 QPA.


Zumbrun/Korkuch Family Scholarship

The Zumbrun/Korkuch Family Scholarship is for incoming freshmen, with an 1100 SAT score and class rank in the upper 25%, who show exceptional ability in their high school curriculum. Preference given for students 1. majoring in any degree program offered through the College of Business or 2. who intend to major in English with Secondary Education certification.  The scholarship may be retained for an additional three years providing the student remains eligible according to the criteria.
